Walking and Climbing the Andes

Introduction to nevados.org

This site aims to provide information for walkers, hikers and mountain climbers, as well as for all lovers of nature and the mountains of the Andes from Colombia to Patagonia.

By the time we go halfway. The challenge is to deal with a situation where, despite the vastness of the territory and the many ways people enjoy, use (or abuse) the Andes, there is no single website that brings together information from the practice of climbing in this region.

Perhaps the most advanced countries are Peru and Chile, thanks to the great mountain tourism developed there, where operators of tours and expeditions are publishing for several years about their offers for climbing and trekking.

Other important sources of information which have been used here are the websites of the national parks. However, sometimes the information they offer lacks practical information for the hiker.

Also the world of organizations and environmental movements provides articles, research and opinion on the protection and exploitation of the mountains and their ecosystems. There is much information but very diverse and heterogeneous.

Finally mountaineering forums and portals from Spain, Germany or the United States offer a lot of information on trekking and climbing.

When there is the risk of getting lost in this sea of information, often brief and fleeting, the most easy approach to the peaks of the Andes is achieved through photography and images. Therefore, the visual presentation, illustration galleries, specialised maps and inclusion of video material is important for us.

Take a look and if you like the site: then we invite you to contribute to the development of content. See how here.
